13: "Music and rhythm find their way into the secret places of the soul." -- Plato

13) Sharing our Music:

Students will have the opportunity to participate in several music sharing experiences during the year. These include more formal Music Sharing events as well as small, casual Music Parties. Well received past performances include playing for others in community settings such as care facilities, hospitals, schools, religious worship services and neighborhood events.

Our annual Piano Palooza Music Sharing is traditionally held in the Spring with all students gathered to play for family and friends. "Admission cost" is a donation of nonperishable food, personal care items or household cleaning products. All donations are given to Neighborhood Services, Inc. located in the University District / Weinland Park Neighborhood of Columbus.

A Practice-a-Thon fundraiser is another way we have shared our music. Our past efforts have supported the MusicCares Program at The James Cancer Hospital here in Columbus. During the event, students collected donations in honor of their practicing efforts. Nine Practice-a-Thons raised over $16,595.00. All money was given to The James for the purpose of bringing recorded and live music to the patient bedside.

Students learn that the ordinary activity of children practicing their piano can become young musicians making beautiful music and helping others in extraordinary ways. Little things added together can make a big difference. Smiles and positive comments tell us that music helps many folks have a much better day. Our music truly does give nourishment and voice to the spirit, beauty and joy to the world.

Thank You For Sharing
